Objectives:
Students in groups will create a prezi about the story by using the lenses of a critical theory of literature found off the filamentality treasure hunt. Research for the critical tehory will be found using a hotlist and a tutorial via jing. The prezi will include the definition of the theory, a thesis, quotes of the story with a defense/description on how this connects to their theory, pictures from the internet that tie into their theory or argument, references, and background.

Rationale:
Students will work in groups and get a deeper understaning of a literary critical theory. The filamentality search will provide the list of what critical theories there are to choose from. The hot list provides a list of references for the students to use to research. This helps students to analyze website and process data. The Jing video will teach the students how to make a prezi. The Prezis will reinvent ways way that a reader will view a story. The story must be analyzed using a critical literary theory. The elements in prezi will be used to definition of the theory, a thesis, quotes of the story with a defense/description on how this connects to their theory, pictures from the internet that tie into their theory or argument, references, and background.

The introduction will be a worksheet on how to analyze information from a website. This helps the students keep their eyes open onwhat to look for on a credible website or not. Handout on Website Evaluation

Students by using the beginning activity will be able to evaluate sources more effectively. The teacher provides the list of websites for the research but there is a wide variety of sites available on the hotlist. Students will then have to use analytical skills to judge and evaluate which sources to use for the assignment. The theory and prezi will connect to the text being analyzed.

Students who learn from reading will read the information off of the sites. Students who learn from self-discovery will learn from researching the information. Students who learn visualization will learn from seeing the example made by the educator.

  • Students will start by discussing how to analyze information on a website after reading the handout on what to look for when evaluating a website handout.
  • Students will pick a critical theory they find the most interesting from the filamentality list.
  • Students will use the filamentality worksheet and hotlist for references to researching a critical theory.
  • Students will view a teacher created jing on how to make a prezi and view a sample Prezi.
  • Students will make a prezi that meets the following criteria.
    • the definition of the theory, a thesis, quotes of the story with a defense/description on how this connects to their theory, pictures from the internet that tie into their theory or argument, references, and background.
  • Students will present their theory to the class by using the prezi to present the information.
